Nomination of the new Bishop-elect for the Diocese of Oudtshoorn
Oudtshoorn, 28 May 2010: It was announced in Rome at midday today that the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, submitted by The Right Reverend Bishop Edward Robert Adams, in conformity with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. (Bishop Adams has reached the canonical retirement age of 75).
Pope Benedict has nominated Rev. Fr Francisco (Frank) Fortunato de Gouveia, of the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Cape Town, Parish Priest of St. John the Evangelist in Fish Hoek, as Bishop of Oudtshoorn.
Bishop-elect Frank de Gouveia was born on 11 June 1951, in Cape Town.
